About National Express

National Express is a UK coach operator that sells tickets online for journeys around the country, airport transfers and travel to events. You can book single, return or open return tickets, which are issued as e-tickets, with routes serving airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Manchester.

National Express - frequently asked questions

Here we answer the questions people ask most often about National Express - from voucher codes to changing your travel plans.

How do I use a National Express voucher code?

Choose your journey and continue to the payment step. Enter the voucher code in the code field before you pay, then check that the discount has been taken off the ticket price.

What is a National Express Coachcard?

A Coachcard is a discount card for coach travel. There are versions for seniors, young people and disabled travellers, and the card brings down the price of eligible tickets.

What is Change & Go?

Change & Go is an add-on costing £5 per direction. It lets you travel on a coach up to 12 hours either side of the departure you originally booked.

Which airports does National Express serve?

Coaches run to airports including Stansted, Luton, Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and Dublin, so you can book a transfer as part of the same journey.

Tips for using a National Express voucher code

Enter your National Express voucher code at the payment step before you complete the booking, and check the price summary to make sure the reduction has been applied. Read the terms first, because a code may only cover certain fares or routes, and it usually cannot be added once the booking is confirmed.

How to save at National Express

A National Express voucher code is the simplest way to cut the cost of a booking. Students can use the student discount hub, and a Coachcard reduces fares for seniors, young people and disabled travellers. NX Rewards lets regular passengers earn with the loyalty scheme, and the refer-a-friend scheme is worth using if friends travel by coach too. Weigh up a standard fare against a fully flexible one if your plans might change.

Payment methods

National Express accepts the following payment methods:

  • Debit and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard and Maestro)
  • JCB
  • PayPal
  • Apple Pay
  • Amazon Pay

Delivery

There is nothing to deliver. Tickets are issued as e-tickets when you book, so there is no need to wait for tickets in the post or collect them before you travel.

Returns and cancellation rights

Fully flexible fares can be changed free of charge and refunded if you cancel at least 24 hours before departure. Standard fares can be changed for £5 plus any difference in fare, while restricted tickets cannot be changed or refunded. Seat reservations, Change & Go, extra luggage, donations and booking fees are non-refundable, and changes are made through My Account.
